Progress!!

As many of you will know, my medical condition has prevented any activity on the railway for the past three months. Finally on Saturday, I felt well enough to have a railway day, and Peter, Tom and Arek came to help.

The goal was to erect the baseboards into the garden and to reconnect the reversing loop.

It was decided that the baseboards needed to be screwed to the pillars, for better robustness. Here you can see Arek, preparing the drill, and Tom supervising.

Here Arek aws wielding the drill to good effect, predrilling a hole in the brick pillar to accept a rawlplug and eventually a screw through the top of the baseboard.

Under the baseboard runs a 20mm diameter tube which could carry electrical cables in the future. Every 2m there is an access box, which Peter fitted as neceassary under the baseboard.

At some points, access was tricky. Although I think here Peter is actually bolting the end of the baseboards together, for added robustness.

Tom and Peter ensuring that the screws holding the corne piece are in the rght place.

Finally the reversing loop was positioned at the end of the line (for the moment, there is plenty more garden to be traversed in the future…).

Here you can see the full extent of what we managed to build. Many thanks to arek, tom and peter for their tireless efforts. All that remains now is to lay the double track on the new baseboards.

    Hi, Adam

So glad you’re on the road to recovery. If anything was going to get you moving it’d be the railway!

    Best wishes from Dorset.

PS – how’s the rest of the family?
