There has been a great response to my open day invitation, with more than 20 people planning to attend next Saturday afternoon, 30th August. If you are planning to come and didn’t yet let me know, please email anmeld.williams@gmx.de.
There has been some progress on platform building; a second platform has been constructed, but neither have been painted. I hope to manage that before the weekend.
Most of the rest of my garden railway time has been spent on details surrounding the afternoon : there will be the opportunity to order drinks to be delivered by train, there will be a visitor book to sign, and of course attendees will have a chance to control the locomotives.
Care will have to be taken that no rolling stock is left on the main line when a through train is coming, as happened recently when my grandson M. was visiting (I was controlling the locomotive!).
The conversation afterwards went something like this:
M: Why did the trains crash, Bampa?
Me: I wasn’t paying proper attention.
M: Why weren’t you paying proper attention?
Me: Its a mystery.
M: Why is it a mystery?
…to which I had no answer.
This conversation took place not just on the day of the crash, but also each time we saw each other over the following days.
Anyway, looking forward to a crash-free afternoon next weekend.
