Exploring

Last weekend Lesley was busy helping with the Titchie Field Day (a sports day for the primary/elementary school). Parents of some the youngest pupils (up to Year 6) were visiting the school for the weekend, and she was helping organise egg-and-spoon races, upholding proper primary school traditions.

On the same day we were invited by some colleagues to explore Hell’s Gate, a national park around 1 hour north-west of the school, and Lesley graciously suggested I went with them.

With the help of a local guide, we hired bicycles and cycled through the park, seeing giraffes, warthogs, buffalos, antelope, and even a zebra crossing (the road).

After about an hour, we ditched the bikes and were taken by another local guide along the edge of the gorge. There were spectacular views of the central column (where part of Tomb Raider was filmed).

Then a bit further on we ended up at the spot which inspired the scene in The Lion King when Mafusa falls to his death. The animators visited Hell’s Gate to get ideas for the film.

Blog Frequency

Currently I am trying to post around once a week. I definitely cannot post more frequently than that, but I wondered if my readership would prefer something less often? I wouldn’t want to think you felt inundated by my missives.

So please reply in the comments with your preferences for blog post frequency e.g. weekly (as now), fortnightly (for the Americans amongst you, that means every two weeks) or monthly.

  2. Fortnightly is fine, Adam Can I also recommend a book by one of the school’s alumni, Climate Change is Racist, by Jeremy Williams?! It’s a good read, especially as parts of Kenya are suffering from drought and this is happening more regularly as a result of the climate crisis. Dave

  5. While I enjoy your weekly blogs, I recognise that you have your hands full with all the demands on you and getting used to a different way of life, new cultural norms, fortnightly would be fine. You could always give us more frequently commentary when something really interesting comes along! Love Barbs

Really enjoying your blog Adam. Weekly is fine for me, just so long as it doesn’t become a burden to you.

Thanks Adam for your regular updates, which are always welcome and interesting. I guess frequency should depend on how much happens in your life, but the busy times give more to write about, but less writing time. I hope you enjoy writing as much as your readers enjoy living your adventure with you.
    With admiration, Richard

  17. Hi Adam,

I’m *really* enjoying the blog, whenever you manage to post. With the JUICE launch barreling down on us, I have plenty of understanding for the ‘not too often’ updates, so whatever you feel is right will be OK with me.

    Cheers,

  24. Dear Adam & Lesley,
We have enjoyed reading the accounts of your exciting and challenging new life. What amazing experiences you are having. With regard to frequency of them I am amazed you can find time to write as frequently as you do. I suppose in a way it’s a form of keeping a diary of your experience. During our year in Australia I kept a diary and I find it very enjoyable to get it out from time to time and read about our time there. With the best will in the world you forget little details which pop up in a diary entry.

    Joey & Keith xx
