Please excuse me for hi-jacking this blog for other purposes, and please don’t feel you have to respond.
If you have heard of the devastating earthquake recently in Myanmar and wanted to do something but weren’t sure how, there is a small NGO in Mandalay called Way Station which is providing what relief they can on the ground.
We know the founders of Way Station personally. Lesley volunteered with them in Mandalay for two months in 2020 before COVID.
This is what they told me this morning:
“At the moment we are covering basic needs. Mosquito nets, matts, solar lamps, food, water etc. Everyone is still sleeping on the road because they continuously, since the first earthquake Friday, experience aftershocks. We are purchasing rice and starting to hand out food because people are running low on that.
The community center has a water filtration system, but the building is very damaged. So, we are working on getting it off the roof and onto the road so that we can begin to supply clean water again (which people are also running out of).”
If you want to contribute to their efforts, you can do so via this link.
