The Rift Valley Academy school sits on the outskirts of the small town of Kijabe. Lesley and I ventured down there to do a spot of shopping.
This is our local shopping centre:

From left to right, there is the Superduka (or supermarket) run by Sarah, where we were able to buy various groceries, and bread. Next to her is the hair salon, followed by the butcher, run by Elizabeth, and then a small restaurant. Further down the road there is a hardware store (where we bought some new brooms).
We asked Elizabeth if she had any lamb. “Of course”, she replied, and proceeded to saw off what were nominally lamb chops from a large joint:

When we got it home, we weren’t sure exactly what we had purchased:

But we browned it and then casseroled it for several hours, and it was delicious:

At the end of the week, I also ventured to the local post office to post some letters to each of our children.
The post office looks in keeping with the rest of the community, and the very friendly post master (I forgot to ask his name) sold me some beautiful stamps.

Apart from all this local gallivanting about, I have successfully completed the first week of term, with the pupils seeming responsive to my teaching.
Kenyan elections
The supreme court has unanimously upheld the election of William Ruto as president. The defeated candidate, Raila Odinga, stated that although he disagreed with the decision, he accepted it, and called on his supporters to maintain calm.
In our area, a Ruto stronghold, things are quiet, and no disturbances are expected.
